Woman gets life sentence for killing husband
A 32-year-old woman was sentenced to life imprisonment for strangulating her husband while her alleged lover was given the benefit of doubt and acquitted by a Sessions court for lack of evidence.
District and Additional Sessions Judge O. P. Gupta, who ruled that the case did not fall in the rarest of rare category, also imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on 32-year-old Paschim Vihar resident Shobha who had murdered her husband in December 2010. Shobha and her paramour were arrested after they made alleged disclosure statements confessing to their involvement in the murder.
Police said that Shobha claimed that she was not satisfied with the relationship with her husband and wanted to leave him and marry her friend. During the trial, Shobha and her friend claimed they had been falsely implicated.
