Saw both Palindromes and Storytelling by Solondz in the past week. Ai carumba. He is one of the few directors who can lure me into morbid and/or guilty curiosities without remorse.
Storytelling was more accessible, but if you see it before Palindromes you will wonder how much further can this guy go into the realm of the irreverent and politically incorrect, yet seemingly without doing so for the mere sake of it. It was a head shaker, a "how does he get away with this stuff" movie. But THEN! Palindromes! I don't even have an opinion other than to say I was amused, engaged, entertained throughout, and confused at first a bit, even. It is a freak show without feeling gratuitous (though it very well may have been). I have never walked away from a movie looking at my husband, him looking at me and both of us saying "What did you think?", and both of us responding, "I have no opinion, but I liked it".
