sgolds, AMD is finally shipping SFF packaged processors. In addition, the latest round have great power specs, 16 watts typical. That is apparantly a big reason why Sun chose them for their blade servers.

Now based on what Sun has been saying, they might also have some MIPS based blades. I'd like to see the specs on some Alchemy blades. Hmm, Alchemy has been making some noises about doing a MIPS64 chip, so in the future Sun could have a complete line of 64 bit blades. You want 64 biit Sun? That 8 processor chip with 4 thread SMT per chip would be a killer. Want 64 bit but backwardly compatable with x86? I think we know the answer there. Need the lowest watts per cubic inch? The current Alchemy chips at 500MHz and 1.2 watts including the PCI and memory controllers promise that a hypothetical MIPS64 chip should do quite well in that respect...
