Algae Fuels PLC NEWS!!! Algae Fuels Plc – Proof of Concept Pilot to Scale Algae Production Systems Project

Algae Fuels Plc – Proof of Concept Pilot to Scale Algae Production Systems Project

11 December 2012

Algae Fuels Plc. (GXG: ALGE) and its directors announce that William Wilder, PhD (President Axis Environmental Services, Inc., The Woodlands, TX, USA) and Larry Peyton, Engineer (Principal, Peyton and Associates, Inc., Montgomery, Texas, USA) were engaged in 2009 -2010 to provide scientific and engineering expertise for the Proof of Concept Pilot to Scale Algae Production System Project.

The purpose of the project was to develop, test and validate the Company’s concept of a system and process that produce high yield, predictable, reliable, scalable and sustainable algae oil, its residual biomass and algal biomass in an indoor climate controlled environment.

The milestones and dates they were met were:

November 2009 – January 2010 – research, development, testing of Pilot Bench Prototype 40 gallon Bio-Reactor and selection of algae strain for testing (successfully completed January 29, 2010)

February – April 2010 – research, development, testing of Full Scale Prototype 400 gallon Bio-reactor (successfully completed April 30, 2010)

May – June 2010 – Algae biomass and oil grown, harvested and extracted from two bio-reactors developed in the Proof of Concept Pilot to Scale Algae Biomass Project were sampled by four independent testing facilities to determine an initial attained growth rate and suitability. Data obtained established the initial growth rate attained was .67 per liter with continuous removal of biomass, 3% maximum concentration of algae in water, 30% maximum lipid recovery and a 1.7 doubling rate days. Fatty acids analysis data showed greater unsaturated composition. Two suitable uses of unsaturated algae biomass are feedstock to be refined in biodiesel production and as a protein supplement for nutraceutical markets (successfully completed June 30, 2010)

June 2010 – Dr. William Wilder and Larry Peyton submitted Production Validation Report data that showed the proprietary process provided growth rates in excess of ten times greater than published rates of competitors using outdoor production technology systems (successfully completed June 30, 2010)

August 2010 – The results of the Proof of Concept Pilot to Scale Algae Production System Project, Production Validation Report and other proprietary data were the basis of United States Patent Application 20120047797, Device and Method for Production of Algae (successfully filed on August 30, 2010)

Conclusion – "Algae Fuels Plc recognizes that the value of algae consists in its versatility with respect to products. This algae initiative was achieved by a step-wise, scalable plan that proceeded through stages of product development (indoor bio-reactors ((PBR’s)) and Algaponds) for the ultimate delivery of cost-effective, efficient and reliable delivery of algae. Specifically, the development of a low-cost, custom system of continuous algae production systems, from growth, harvesting and extraction has been successfully completed. These units are proprietary, modular, highly scalable, and provide for high-sustainability. Indoor installation allows for the algae to be grown virtually anywhere there is water and power. Algae Fuels Plc believes that it has been able to benefit from the many experiences of other algae initiatives, understands that the diversification of markets is important to create a cash-flow positive company. On-going technological, research and development efforts improve yields and generate other efficiencies, while generating significant operative revenue", said Rick Berman, CEO and Director.
