I think Intel out executed them on the HSA (or earlier called heterogeneous computing). Quicksync and AES acceleration are great examples of Intel putting application specific accelerators into silicon that greatly benefit the consumer. Meanwhile AMD continues to rebrand, re-label, and squirm around trying to figure out how to succeed.


I think AMD will downsize and focus on a few key segments, which is what they should have done from the beginning:

- One small team working on graphics for consoles and embedded applications, and a few niche high end discrete plays
- One small team working on Jaguar based SOCs for cheap tablets and laptops
- One small team integrating ARM A57 cores for future micro-server designs
- Some slack to gracefully EOL and exit the rest of the biz (and continue to put on a show in the meantime that they aren't exiting anything)

By the way, if Rory can do this he'll be a hero, even if nobody sees AMD in the same way again....
