yourbankruptcy , good article. (I know, it has been posted before, but today I have time to read it.) Let me quote the Itanium sales section - Bloomberg was taking the info from IDC, which is about the best source there is for these numbers:

Manufacturers shipped 760 Itanium servers in 2001 and an estimated 3,000 in 2002, according to IDC. Sun CEO Scott McNealy calls the chip ``Itanic,'' meaning that it will sink.

This article has a really good analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Intel, and is really a must read for anyone investing in this sector. It covers the communications fiasco ($6B, no return), the WiFi hopes, the manufacturing investments, and much more. There is both positive and negative for Intel here.

But very little time for Barrett, who is scheduled to retire in two years - and Intel now has the same revenue as when he joined, and much less profit. This reinforces my view that Barrett is the very worst thing that could have happened to Intel, he certainly is no Moore!
