That's true for Europe. Especially Greece.

The 'simple math' is debt to bond holders.

Eliminate bonds and there would be no debt.

Sovereign debt would disappear.

Retirement funds....vanish, Poof!

The only help for the people who live off capital gains would be food stamps!
