Fujian Province State Grid, Longyan, China

Project Description

220kV reconductoring project in which 816 “Grosbeak” ACCC® conductor was used
to replace existing ACSR. This project was 8 linear miles.

Cable Selection Considerations

Increased ampacity, conductor strength and low sag profiles were all factors in the Fujian
Province State Grid’s decision to select ACCC® conductor for this application.

Outcome

Despite the very challenging installation conditions the installation was a success.
The customer’s objectives were met, and the extra capital investment for structure
replacement and modifications was avoided.

37 Existing “hot” distribution and transmission lines were crossed during
this installation.
Extreme down pull conditions, including a span in excess of 2,500 feet from
mountain top to mountain top were present.
Several typhoons, including the strongest recorded in over a 50 year history
with winds in excess of 135 mph occurred during installation and after the line
was energized without any conductor damage.

Extreme high tension had to be maintained during pulling in order to clear
existing underbuild.
