Klaus, that has been the case already last quarter, e.g. SUN mentioned it. They are making up for this by unit growth rates that far exceed competitors. Their strategy is to build unit share and once INTEL is back in the driver´s seat, get ASPs back up again in the few areas where they had to discount them. I see no reason why this strategy shouldn´t work for them, considering Opteron´s still fairly limited market penetration (relative to Dell´s total market opportunity).

I would have thought they´d take their customer´s needs more serious, but if pricing does the trick...

It´s a shame that Dell doesn´t have any Opteron competition in the SMB market.

BTW, HP had promotions like that as well last quarter, for Xeon, to match competitor´s Xeon pricing. I´ll send you a link next time I see it.
