I agree. In this situation, you should always ask who stands to benefit. There is no way that the individual shareholder is going to benefit from this. The negative publicity hurts the stock price and the company is certainly not "cash rich".

The only ones that could possibly benefit are the lawyers and the shorts. This is just more FUD material brought to you courtesy of our short friends who are increasingly desperate to cover.
