Ed Godin explained the phenomenon succinctly to me, much the same as you did. All the available material is currently being mined. There will soon be a shortfall of unprecedented proportions. The cyclical nature of the mining industry is now that they have dug the ground, they have to go and find more ground to dig, or they will be left behind.

If some company like EKWZ can demonstrate that finding usable U308 can be done in a couple of months rather than years, they will capitalize on this situation in a big way.
