Interesting footnote, after the 1852 election the Whig Party ceased to exist...perhaps because we shot them all! In reality, it was due to the changing electorate (you no longer had to be a land-owning male to cast a vote. The democratic party split about that time, with many northern dems joining whig riffraff to form the GOP and in 1860 elected Lincoln. The rest is history. Lesson learned is to avoid going toe-to-toe with political bosses and there muscle...as even if you win...you lose. Is it worth the cost? S~P
