Great post! While I agree with most of what you wrote, I have to disagree about the SEC comment. As a former Internet crimes investigator, I can assure you that SEC and FBI investigators do have time for it. It's exactly what they are paid to do, especially if they are assigned to cyber crimes. All it takes is a quick federal subpoena with an IP address to the appropriate ISP and they have your name and address. Probable cause is not difficult to articulate when substantiated with numerous messages. I'm not asserting that either agency is watching, but know that if there is enough complaints, they will take action. The Internet, VRNGs message board and others are not shielded with the anonymity that many would like to believe. On the other hand, the First Amendment provides a strong defense. It really comes down to intent.
