Spartan names former A&P exec as chief executive

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 3 (Reuters) - Spartan Stores Inc. (SPTN), a Midwest grocery store operator said on Monday it named Craig Sturken, a former executive at Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. (GAP), as president and chief executive.

Sturken replaces James Meyer, who will remain chairman.

Sturken had most recently been chief executive of A&P's Atlantic region and had previously run A&P's Midwest region.
