You have to take into consideration the fact that were other companies, specifically, Apple who owed them huge amounts. Cisco and AOL and a few others owed much smaller amounts.

VHC's trial against Apple is scheduled for this week, Monday, 10/29, if AAPL doesn't settle first. They have used and lost on the same arguments that MSFT used and Gates decided to pay up double what the damage in court was of $106 million rather than tripling it for willfulness.

I hope they get a multiple of 3-5 on $1 billion. Vringo has to get some portion of the foreign infringement which is close to the US damages of $1 billion.

If GOOG says no, Stout may very well make a phone call to Gates or Cook and ask them if he would like to make a better offer than Eric.

Stout founded NTP, along with Nathan Myrhold, who, at one time was head of Tecnology for Microsoft. Obviously, he knows Gates and Stout. Connect the dots. Apple's animousity towards Google is well-known. They might like to get involved, as well. Gates could pursue an injunctuion against Google as they are involved with BING and could show they are being injured, if they owned Vringo.

No one thought Sprint would get 70% of their stock bought a month ago, either. The giants are all trying to position themselves to protect their futures. Having VRGO's two patents would preserve that. Besides, when would VRNG start pursuing other infringers?
