What people fail to take into consideration when looking at the daily short numbers are day trades.

If a person buys and sells the stock the same day, a short is automatically generated, since it takes 3 days for a buy to clear.

This is why you see numbers on the daily short list but don't see it translated to the threshold lists that come out every couple of weeks
