Yes you are absolutely correct, one bad chip can wreak havoc and if its in a military system the outcome can be far worse. However, the semiconductor Industry Association, which represents most of the US IC manufacturers do not want to adopt it, and in fact are strongly against it, especially the DLA mandate, which by the way they are currently pushing back on (I attended a meeting on this very subject recently so I have first hand knowledge). The industry switched to laser marking several years ago in an attempt to address the counterfeiting issue and do not want to have to change their process back to ink marking. Personally I'm expecting a reversal of the DLA decision, particularly relating to semiconductors.

Has anyone heard of this ???????????????
