FULL TEXT: Denver’s thriving medical marijuana industry on “60 Minutes”
Denver’s thriving medical marijuana industry is the focus of a “60 Minutes” story by Steve Kroft this week, Sunday at 6 p.m. on Channel 4. The topic, already well covered by local media and national cable and broadcast networks, now gets the “60 Minutes” treatment. With the pot-legalization measure on the ballot for November, and with “pot tourism dollars” at issue, Kroft notes that while the businesses have created jobs and helped the economy, they’re still against federal law.
Kroft and his producers did a round of interviews in Denver in April and have returned several times. The camera lingers on various shops and visits marijuana products firm Dixie Elixirs. No word on which THC-laced edibles the correspondent sampled.
Kroft interviewed Matt Cook, a former narcotics officer who was the Colorado director of enforcement on medical marijuana production and sales, in a marijuana grow facility in Denver (pictured), which the producers agreed not to identify. Among those on camera: Tripp Keber of Dixie Elixirs, Ean Seeb, prize-winning grower, and Kristi Kelly, a dispensary investor.
