This is purely speculation but I would assume they have to test a number of things. Effective distance that the device picked up on explosives from. You would also have to test what it could detect explosives through. What explosive materials it was able to detect effectively. If there were any harm to user after repeated use. How durable the product was.

These are a few I could think of off the top of my head. Also knowing business and how long it takes to setup test and actually get your employees to do something. I can imagine all these test would take some time. To the people preforming the test it is just a job. They go out on the weekends and get drunk or whatever and hate Mondays just like anyone else. I doubt they have stock in the product. You have to factor all these things in. Plus how many deadlines are actually met in your business? I know ours are busted all the time. So it is what it is. Should be reasonable to hear something in a week or two from now, I think.
