selinpinar,

Clipstream G1 required a java plug-in. Java has always been a little buggy; some bugs in Java put the computers at risk of hackers. Each new release of Java has different features. As each browser update was release, each Java update had to be fixed to work with the newest browser update. There was a perpetual problem of keeping the software updated to work correctly.
Nevertheless, Clipstream G1 was gaining some backers including some big companies using Java.

What really knocked out Clipstream G1 was the Adobe Flash plug-in that worked better than Clipstream with Java. Youtube founders took the Adobe Flash software and solved some of its quirks by automatically creating multiple formats of videos posted into their system. Youtube got bought by Google in 2006-2007 because the platform was the best option for distributing videos on the web. It allowed websites developers to use youtube rather than create videos on their own website and manage the video stream problem themselves.

What is different?

There were limitations in the Web Browser standards that prevented Clipstream G2 from occurring. HTML v5 is just maturing into the new standard. For one, it includes a 'video' tag that never existed before. As the v5 standard was formed, the arguments over how the pieces should work never got resolved completely in favor of one standard versus another. So the common use of multiple video formats for phones, PCs, TVs still exist.

Destiny began developing Clipstream before Flash existed and they never gave up trying to solve the business problem. They decided to apply the Javascript language in place of the Java language to solve their player requirement. No other company seemed to look at that option since they already had their systems working in their own way.

Since Javascript is native in every browser, Clipstream G2 does not need the player plug-ins that every other video needs. This provides Destiny an advantage.

Since I can't see the new version yet, I can expect that Destiny's Javascript enabled video player may not have all the bells-and-whistles that Adobe's players and Microsoft's players have. However, this system will work better for displaying small ads that run inside a documents - such as advertising. So the battle will be between a robust video player versus a fast, simple video player.
