Premier Safety Fair held in Forest Park
Little Ones Learning Center drawing wins fair
As of Friday, October 12, 2012
FOREST PARK— “It’s been fun. It’s just like a regular fair but it was for safety,” said nine-year-old Jada Dixon, as she described the first Safety Transportation Fair held in Georgia.
A leader in the childcare safety industry ATWEC (Around the World Educating Children) Technologies, Inc., Little Ones Learning Center, and National Bus Sales & Leasing hosted the premier safety fair.
The safety fair was the kick-off for the Georgia KidsSafe program. The fair was held at Little Ones Learning Center located at 993 Forest Park Ave., in Forest Park.
The safety fair is designed to raise awareness, educate the importance on preventing accidental child abandonment in vehicles as well as back up accidents, and address safety concerns while they are transported each day on vans and school buses.
Little Ones Learning Center Director, Wande Meadows said the safety fair was in honor of Jasmine Green, a Georgia youngster who died when she was left inside of a van.
“This safety fair is amazing and a great event,” Meadows said. “What is shocking to me is to look around and see all of the community support and participation. Our teachers came together as a team to develop the curriculum to share the safety program in a fun manner.”
Representatives of the Forest Park Police, and fire departments were on hand for the safety fair to give safety guidelines to the children and their parents.
“Usually when we go inside a house at night to put out a fire the electricity has been turned off, so we use these lights,” said Forest Park firefighter and emergency medical technician, William Meinert.
Little Ones Learning Center was been awarded the fair because they submitted the best drawing of ATWEC’s safety mascot Kiddie Kid™ through their participation of a state wide safety drawing contest, said ATWEC President and Chief Executive Officer Alex T. Wiley.
“We manufacture and design child safety alarms for buses, vans and cars,” Wiley said. “We built a device to ensure that no child will be left on a bus or van made in the USA. The device has a voice speaker that reminds the driver to check the vehicle for passengers. In the rear of the vehicle is a patented child proof key lock system used to reset the Kiddie Voice System.”
Wiley added that the driver cannot stop the voice recording until the key is inserted inside the lock, and because it is located in the rear that allows the driver to check each seat ensuring that all of the passengers are out of the vehicle before locking it.
The winning drawing was created by Little Ones Pre-K teacher Shannon Collins and her class.
“I submitted our drawing into the Georgia Childcare Association summer 2012 Kiddie Kid Safety Drawing Contest, because I knew my class had the ability to win,” Collins said. “They are very creative.”
Dixon’s mother, Toni Dixon, is the President of Little Ones Learning Center Parent Advisory Board.
“I believe this safety fair is beneficial for the children, parents and staff members,” Dixon said. “The technology is great because it is for the safety of our children and that is our first priority. I believe this fair will start a movement for childcare van riders.”
