FONAR Sells 36th Stand-Up MRI; Customer Planning to Buy Five Units

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2003--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ:FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today a prominent radiology group that currently owns and operates several diagnostic imaging centers on the West Coast has purchased its first Stand-Up(TM) MRI. The group is proceeding with plans to site and install four more. This sale marks the sixth Stand-Up(TM) MRI sold on the West Coast, the Company's 36th in total.

The Stand-Up(TM) MRI is the world's only whole-body MRI scanner with the ability to perform Position Imaging(TM) (pMRI(TM)), i.e. patients can be scanned standing, sitting, bending or lying down. Because of its unique ability to scan patients in weight-bearing postures, the Stand-Up(TM) MRI identifies pathologies that may go undetected on conventional, lie-down MRI scanners.

The Stand-Up(TM) MRI is also extraordinarily patient friendly. With nothing in front of the patients' faces or over their heads, claustrophobic reactions are virtually nonexistent. Patients typically sit comfortably and watch a big-screen television throughout their scans.
