Good article from Bambi Fransisco in today's MarketWatch alert. Pertains to Google's trying to WiFi SAnFRan for free usage. Part that caught my attention was when talk turned to location-based services.

"Location based services can actually be a utility. Here's how it would work: Say I want to find a store that sells men's shoes around Union Square in SF. If I go to Union Square and turn on my laptop, I can get access to the internet via Google. By searching for men's stores in that area, EVENTUALLY, I can get targeted ads sent to me from stores in that surrounding area. "

"This might have sounded like an annoyance to me, before my recent experience. Early last week, I was looking for stores that sold men's shoes in that area. I was proactive about my search-asking my male colleagues and searching online. It took some time to get all the information. By the time I got to Union Square, there were many stores I didn't even think of."

"Hence, targeted ads would have actually made my quest much easier. To be sure there are a number of kinks to be worked out such as, I can't fit my laptop in my purse so I wouldn't have actually turned on the computer while I was there."

Hey Bambi, ever hear of NEOM and using your cellphone to do this in about a minute? All the info you ever wanted at your fingertips and fits into your purse just fine. It's coming to you very soon. Hope you can remind Google that NEOM is the way to go and forget about dragging your computer with you to do any of that while you are moving about the city!! Your friend, Cj
