what are the odds that a randomly lame-brained screw-up would deliver the results that were reported vs. having an intentionally manipulated misleading result produce those results?

if it's not criminal enterprise, we have a new world-record for a series of errors that coincidentally produced stunning results.

or revised results, if acheivable, could be close to what was reported?
