To add fuel to the speculation that a partner was involved in this, and that PPHM was covered under Reg FD, I imagine it played out like this:

Late Wednesday PPHM gets a call from a partner who was vetting the trial data. They say their might be a problem but it's not confirmed and should know more soon. As a preventative measure, you should go ahead and cancel the upcoming investor conferences.

On Friday, the partner tells PPHM in writing that the error is confirmed but the extent of the error is unknown so to issue a release that covers their a$$es using negative language.

Now, due to Reg FD, PPHM must disclose this before the start of the trading day Monday.

The partner knows the impact this will have on the PPS and scoops up everything they can get their hands on. All IMO.
