I assume that negotiations are in progress- but in many such sessions there is no or little progrgres, and thus the possibibility of litigation creeps into the mix. I do believe that the professor is in a weak possition compared to Chang, but Chang is under pressure from his kinfolks, et al.
Chang has physical assets, the professor, who switched from fuel cells saw the opportunity work his way into bioenergy.
Three are thousands of villages in Asia,and energy sources will be in high demand to satsify the growth damands
The professor is an idea man-not a business man. He had secured from Caltech patent rights, but that industry did not grow as he expected to.
His ego must be nearly crushed-and he could easily dig in his heels and ruin this deal for all.
The Changs let him in the tent, but might force him out and take up with another of the executives who have marketing success way beyod the professor's.
But, also. the professors son is a patent lawyer, who has a vested interest in a break-down of negotiations, thus comes the golden egg's demise, and the sale of VSPC and investors positions
