You missed it by looking only at the past financial statements. Your approach is excellent for the big board stocks, but in the Pink Sheet land, you can't go by financials alone. For two reasons, the first that even with financials, you can still get burned. And the second, stocks like HLNT do not show what is happening in real time based upon what has happened in the past. By the time investors figure that out, the stocks that are real have moved substantially and those investors have passed up on gains that they could have made, had they done much more complete due diligence. Follow what works for you, but the rest of us will not be worrying about what could have been.
