I'm going to take a guess here and say that this statement which came directly from A Bit Lucky's website is one reason Zynga bought them.

Our new series of games will be hardcore transplatform multiplayer real-time games, playable on all platforms (PC/Mac, tablets, phones…)

The so called "social games" are losing there track slowly and mid core and hardcore gaming is here to stay. This new team zynga acquired, will probably lead zynga into the next stage. I personnel don't think this acquisition was intended to raise to price, but more for a strategical advancement.
