All the independent, third parties should form a coalition whose only purpose is to modify the way votes are cast and counted.

If you could also vote AGAINST a candidate, no voter would worry that their vote will be thrown away by voting for a third party (current paradigm). Then the NET votes would be tallied, and the candidate with the highest NET votes, would win.

This would also raise the caliber of the offerings because many would vote against the major party candidate they dislike the most. A candidate like Gary Johnson could win because his votes will be FOR votes. Obama and Romney are such poor choices, they could both have negative NET votes.

Until the system is changed in this way, the two-party system will remain firmly entrenched, and any vote for a third party is truly a throwaway vote.
