That's the legal system. Apparently a patent is only a ticket to court and until it has been vetted through the court system it is subject to interpretation. As you can tell the process involves defining terms very specifically. It is the definition of those terms that makes or breaks your case. I frankly find some of the terms so easy to understand a complete moron could define them. You have to take all of this in relation to the case they are trying to build either for or against infringement. The terms can make or break the case. It is therefore a strategy to lay out the terms in a manner that will on down the line support your side. Too much lawyering.
