From today's Boston Globe, LITTLE CAMPAIGN TALK OF US POVERTY GROWTH...
"Nearly one in every six Americans live in poverty"..."in 2011 the government's threshold for poverty was $10,890 for an individual and $22,350 for a family of four". Mitt Romney's choice for VP, Rep Paul Ryan introduced a budget in the House that calls for $5.3 trillion in spending reductions and has advocates for the poor concerned - Ryan's budget would cut $133.5 billion from the food stamp program over 10 years, knocking as many as 10 million people off the rolls, which came under criticism from The U.S. Conference of Bishops. Shortly thereafter, a group of Roman Catholic nuns went on a 2,700 mile bus tour to assail a Republican budget plan they deemed an immoral attack on the poor...the bus tour stopped in Janesville, WI before Paul Ryan was picked by Romney to be his running mate.
"nearly one in every six American families live in poverty"! - yet Repubs feign concern the original Dem platform did not contain the word "God"!
