basically prox is a series of passive infra red (PIR) proximity detectors that enable the carebot to "watch" grandma while she is sleeping and see if she is getting out of bed, at say 2AM.

prox talks to spio, spio talks to super and super tells chat to ask grandma if she is okay!

if the family wants to know that grandma is up in the middle of the night, they can be notified all kinds of ways: verbal, phone, email, pager, or whatever-

and then view her using the carebot's webcam!

I think that the Japanese are having difficulty in getting their "partner robots" accepted by little old ladies because they haven't enabled their personal robots to interact politely.

that's what the numerous AI savants that gosy has developed does!
