Ads by phone are just what FB users wanted.

FaceBook I don't want you on my phone any more than you already are - personal POV. And do I really want you pinging me? {again personal POV} This tactic exists already with better platforms and reach and is used quite often in direct response mobile.

My POV again. Facebook you are trying too hard - take the oversized Raybans off and see the light - you are FaceBook a social network controlled by your users at their leisure - this is your birthright. A marketer you are not. A medium for ad revenue and sales - you are not. The old saying...jack of all trades and master of none...well that's pretty much where you are headed....that of course is my POV.

A simple way to think of this program is as a form of retargeting where personal information replaces the cookie (which often expires, and of course doesn't exist across device). Once could also consider it an extension of CRM marketing.

There is huge potential here, however, the challenge are:
Facebook needs to get a significant percentage of its users to supply phone numbers (other than mobile or the same phone numbers that marketers/advertisers have)
Consumers may not use the same email email addresses between the advertiser and Facebook. However, obviously in those cases where advertisers got registrations via Facebook Connect, the email addresses will match.
Certainly a platform that will work for some marketers.

Everything is all just a matter of opinion.
