Quite possibly the most remarkable tennis match in Paralympic Games history ended on Sunday
with Esther Vergeer (NED) clinching a third straight women's singles Paralympic gold medal at
Olympic Green Tennis Centre after a 62 46 76(5) victory over second seed Korie Homan (NED).

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS

Tennis is played from a wheelchair with two classes - open and quad (disability in three or more limbs).

In wheelchair tennis competitions, players are allowed two bounces
of the ball, the first bounce being within the bounds of the court.

Esther Vergeer of the Netherlands competes in a Wheelchair Tennis women's Singles competition.

The draw was made before a crowd of players, coaches and officials at Eton Manor today and pits the Dutchwoman against the Japanese player.

Vergeer has not lost a Singles match since 2003 - a winning streak of 465 matches - and is aiming for a fourth consecutive Singles gold medal (she also has two Doubles golds) at London 2012.

Thailand has a tough draw in the men's Singles. Suthi Khlongrua will play world number one Stephane Houdet of France, while Suwitchai Merngprom faces world number four Ronald Vink of the Netherlands.

Defending Paralympic champion Shingo Kunieda of Japan faces Rafael Medeiros Gomes of Brazil.

In Quad Singles, notable match-ups are South Africa's Lucas Sithole against world number one David Wagner of the USA.

The Wheelchair Tennis competition starts on Saturday.
