Tinroad: I find it hard to believe that you are debating something as certain as the fact that D.inkie post (supposedly from his manual) does state that the MXP supports ID3 tags. I suggest you read it again.

Go to his post, #msg-790340 and look toward the bottom under "Features." It is clearly there between the non-bolded features

Multiple play modes (normal, shuffle, repeat, intro)
ID3 tag support
Li-Ion rechargeable battery (3.7V/1200mAh) for over 12 hours of playback
