Jimdc8 QUOTE...

-I thought I'd re-submit Jimdc8's post with pertinent information... I removed the part that was off topic. Great info Jimdc8. Thank you.

"When I saw the Delta DC-9's I wasn't paying much attention to the series at the time. As for my experience, I am an ATP with 15,000 flight hours with 7 type ratings. I am VERY familiar with the 747-200! Connie Kalitta makes a ton of money flying them all around the world. The aircraft is a workhorse!!! N706BL is in awesome shape. I have many friends at Kalitta in OSC who have worked on this aircraft. The -200 does 80% of what a -400 can do for a fraction of the initial cost which makes it perfect for a startup. Even Richard Branson started Virgin Atlantic with -200's and operated them until just a few years ago! Delta phased them out simply because the cost per seat mile is cheaper with the -400. Simple economics for a company with deep pockets.

And yes, Delta does fly some aircraft that are older than N706BL!!! That is a fact.

BTW, the USAF still flies -200's under a military designation. The B-52 is also doing just fine at a mere 50+ years and plans for 25 + more!"
