"A nationwide survey by doctors from the Shanghai Children's Medical Center in 2009 discovered that children in Shanghai had less than nine hours of sleep daily compared to a global average of 9.5 hours, and the figure is lower than any other major city in China. And doctors say that the situation hasn't changed much over the past few years."
"Doctor Gao Peilan of the Shanghai Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine told the Global Times that children have their own unique sleep cycles. "They usually range from 9 pm to 7 am. If they miss the time slot to fall asleep in the cycle, they will struggle to have good sleep."
Gao has more than 20 years' experience treating sleeping disorders with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM practitioners, she said, believed that it was easy for children to become overheated internally and this prevented them sleeping properly."
Really good article in re: pediatrics in China. I'd suggest reading the entire thing as it touches on multible topics.
