I'd hardly call it clandestine. If a group of investors are interested in meeting with a company, is the company supposed to invite EVERYONE to the meeting?... or are they supposed to issue a PR saying they're meeting with a potential group of investors or something? Maybe there's some link to an SEC guideline about that.
