iBEAM Smashes Network Record by Serving 1 Billion Audio and Video Streams

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Apr 12, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- iBEAM Broadcasting Corp. (IBEM) , the leading provider of streaming communications solutions, announced today that it smashed through an industry milestone and streamed its 1 billionth stream within the company's first 500 days of operation. Additionally, in March, iBEAM delivered some of the largest-known webcasts for popular events such as the NCAA Championships, the PGA Tour and the Academy Awards. Peak streaming bandwidth demand across the company's intelligent edge network has surpassed two gigabits per second (2 Gbps).

The growth in streaming traffic correlates to increases of broadband connections at work, at home and in universities, as well as overseas demand for American content. Furthermore, there is a growing acceptance of enhanced content for major television events, which is being streamed over iBEAM's network. According to Keynote, CBS SportsLine.com's high bandwidth 300K streams demonstrated very high quality, with an average 4.68 quality score, which exceeds the average for video streams on the Keynote Streaming 20 Index, which has averaged between 2.52 and 3.26 each week since January 14.
