COLUMBIA, Md. September 19, 2005, The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) has signed, with Link Plus Corporation, a worldwide exclusive license agreement to its explosive detection technology. The key technology is a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensor that reacts to very minute amounts of fumes expelled into the air by explosive compounds. In combination with a unique method for converting this chemical reaction to an electrical signal that can be monitored, the MIPs technology provides a powerful tool for detecting explosives and other hazardous materials in a wide variety of settings. Under the license, Link Plus has the right to make, use, market, and sell products incorporating the MIPs technology.

JHU/APL and Link Plus jointly will develop a suite of products that combine MIPs with the Link Plus Advanced Wireless Communications System (AWICS) (TM) and the Utilimesh (TM) software. The products will include handheld explosive detection devices and fixed explosives sensors that can wirelessly transmit information regarding the presence of an explosive to responsible agencies. Link Plus is currently developing products that will incorporate the MIPs sensors for various homeland security and international applications, including shipping pallets and containers, airplanes, trains, buses, and subway stations. The combination of this powerful sensor technology, along with the wireless mesh network capability of Utilimesh (TM), gives Link Plus a unique product for the broader security market, as well as other industrial monitoring and commercial applications.

The maritime container tracking market size is expected to reach $70 Million by 2006 growing to $4 Billion by 2012. Further, it is expected that $12 Billion will be spent on the Maritime Container fleet security between 2006 and 2012 with an additional $7 Billion expended for command and control infrastructure.
