An Elan sales rep at a card game told me about Elan and ,after some DD, I bought a few shares in 2000 at around 35. I started loading up at 4.10 in 03, took some profits off the table in 04, decreased my holdings in 05, and took more profits in 07.
I continued buying on and off through everything - all the way to WTF week.
Sold half my shares at 11.50 during WTF week and held the rest.
11.47 is my average cost per share.
Elan is the only stock I ever owned that I badly misplayed.
I only invest in cash - no leaverage - no options.
Most of my larger purchases are when stocks I like are showing weakness. I have done pretty well over the years. Around half my net worth was made investing in stocks.
I agree with you on Elan. A decent but not great wager.
I am currently holding 12,400 shares and am sleeping well at night.
