A reverse split is only bad if the REAl value of your stock goes down. So if you have a million shares and a 2 for 1 split happened then you would have 500,000 shares. But if the price of the stock went from 1 cent to two cents then you have in essence the same stock value. The good thing about a split would be the decrease in the number of shares thus creating a more tradable situation. Of course the talk of a split could make the price tumble which would mean I would buy a crap ton more shares!
