Will, I appreciate your point of view, and you call it as you see it. That I also admire. But as you point out, this IS an election year. One of the most outstanding concerns of voters this year is jobs.
Approval of the POW mill would equal jobs for the county and state. (not just at POW, but all the other places that the mill would need things from. EG: trucking firms, support companies, construction jobs, even some lunch trucks.) The estimate is over 300 jobs from the mill on down to the suppliers. Now not all these jobs would appear overnight, but it would start the chain of hiring.
Any politician that could say they brought more jobs to a county with approximately 20% unemployment would jump on a chance to be able to do something like this.
So I respectfully point out that this would not "rock the boat", but it would effectively "bail out" the bilge of a sinking boat.
I believe the POW will be met with favorable political support.
Like we have seen in some opinion letters sent to the Governor, "Let's get to work!" has a great voice in an area that presently relies on only one stream of revenue, seasonal tourism. Adding a second source of jobs and also taxable revenue would be a wise decision.
