Geraldo Rivera & the NY Times:

I don't know if you are familiar with this dispute or not, but the NY Times reported that in rescuing an elderly person in a wheelchair in N.O. that Rivera refused to let a national guardsman take the wheelchair because he wanted to be seen by the camera as the hero - and in fact, tried to get the guardsman to move out of the way for the camera.

Well, here is a link to the story. You can download it. Rivera was on Bill O'Reilly's show (which I never watch because I don't like him), but I have a lot of respect for Rivera. The irony is that Rivera is considered relatively liberal in many ways and so is the NY Times. I've never had reason to have problems with the NY Times before, but this is ridiculous.

The tape clearly shows that the NY Times report is bogus IMO, but they refuse to retract the story.

When you go to this link, click the download and view video here. It is just a little ways down.

And, then click on this link to watch it with audio. Someone yells get out of the shot, but it obviously is not Rivera who is miked. It is probably the cameraman.

Anyway, it looks to me like the NYTimes has a credibility issue on this.
