I asked some if they could explain that to me and I would then try to explain why that can't be.

The answere is there is no way that there can be negative profits. Now should you look at the trinsic asset growth along with retained earnings and the reduction in capital surplus depreciation and amortization of intrinsic assets as well as interest costs on convertable debt ect. ect. you would of discovered yes that what we have is positive profits and in fact accountants have done all the work for you.
The brackets as I have mentioned are ment to be true dollar values and just because a company increases inventory on credit on accounts recievables and payables through a bank or other wise noting the retained earnings were other figures could be distorted by depreciation and amortization of both intrinsic assets as well as amortization on the payables so noted due to the difference between the two ect. ect.
You have to take what they are telling you to be the truth that it is bu imposible to have a negative profit unless your applying agerbra in your calculations and then maybe you could get a negative profit answere.
Read your accounting rules again and they will inform you on what math is used it is the bases of understanding financial papers. I could tell you but then you would only think I'm giving you good BS.
