if just hitting the ask is making you part of a crowd they can igore you and call it a mistake so they dont get in any trouble
...I have done this....enter a bid at ask plus ten basis points,,,ie ask is .66 you bid .661
when I do that I get filled IMMEDIATELY at the ask
