As much as ask slapping is a necessary thing, I would agree that it's pointless to slap the ask on a non-news day. Best thing would be to stay one tick above where ever strong bid support exists. Once it appears no shares will sell at bid support, that's when bid support moves up a tick. Buy at or one tick above bid support.
