Plastic to Oil Facility Brings Second Processer Online in New York

Processor No. 2 at JBI's Niagara Falls facility
04 April 2012

JBI, a Canadian waste plastics to oil specialist has commissioned its second Plastic2Oil (P2O) processor at its Niagara Falls, New York facility.

According to the company the design of Processor No. 2 is based on data retrieved while working with the original P2O processor, which since June 2011 has undergone a number of substantial upgrades.

JBI said that the enhancements include a design that can be replicated and deployed to leverage economies of scale with its manufacturers, the ability to cater to the specific fuel needs of customers and a reduction of stack emissions.

Processor Nos. 1 & 2 are permitted to operate at 4000 pounds (1800 kgs) per hour, however they are currently operating at 2000 pounds per hour.

The company said that it expects to operate both processors at 4000 pounds per hour - as per the upgraded Air Permit issued by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) - once it receives approval on its amended Solid Waste Permit from the NYSDEC.

This amendment will effectively double the plastic feedstock throughput, from 2000 pounds/hour per processor to 4000 pounds/hour, which the company said should in turn double the amount of fuel output each P2O processor can produce.
