Note that spider silk has MANY commercially important qualities.

Monster Silk was equivalent/superior in only ONE of them.

There is vast room for Gen2 to be a considerable improvement.

Note also that different uses require different combinations of properties. There will NEVER be ANY combination of properties that is best for all uses! A quality that is absolutely critical for one use may be the kiss of death for others (elasticity, for example)
