At the end of the day I'm not sure you actually need their mathematical approach - I suspect what they are doing could also be matched using some common sense by anyone who had a good understanding of the pathways involved and drugs available.

There's a wing in almost every university full of people who think the best way to deal with large amounts of cancer signaling networks data and decipher the complex relationships within those datasets is through mathematical representation and computation :)
